October 14-15 @ Navy in FJs & 420s
A: Erik Storck/Killarney Loufek & Andrew Geffken
B: Andrew Loe/Betsy Bryant

Saturday: Shifty and Variable conditions, we sailed pretty well, but were inconsistent off the starting line, finished the day close to the top of B.

Sunday: We were fast. Really fast. Two 4s, a second and five 1st place races. Reminded me how valuable boatspeed is. We could do what we wanted, when we wanted.

Its always fun when you win by a lot, hopefully we can keep going the way we have been!

Update: There is some video!

Saturday: First team race regatta in a long time! We sailed well, only losing races in some questionable situations. Definatly solidified ourselves as one of the top teams to beat, but also one of the most fun teams to race against.

Sunday: Started the day with a frustrating loss in zero wind. The race should have been called but the comittee was interested in completing the rotation to guarantee a regatta if it turned out the wind was done for the day. Wind filled later in the afternoon and we were able to complete a full top 6 rotation. We went undefeated, surviving a battle with St. Mary’s. Definatly feel vindicated by sweeping the final round. Our communication got much better, and I knocked off a lot of rust – the stupid mistakes were much less common in the last round-robin.

Overall: 2nd place ain’t too shabby. No one is going to win team race nationals in the fall.

September 23-24 @ Coast Guard in Colgate 26s

Saturday: South West breeze is very shifty, which made for some strange sailing in keel boats. We never got comfortable upwind, but made big moves downwind. Starting defiantly improved as we got the timing down.

Sunday: Same theme as saturday, we were more patient and won a race, but got passed in the following race using almost the same approach.

Shifty conditions made for some tough calls, tacking is so slow you had to choose which shifts were worthy, and which were not. We did not make good calls here and didn’t have the upwind speed to compete with the top three boats.

4th, beat the “rest” but didn’t have the upwind speed to compete with the top three for a Nationals berth.

Saturday: Started off hot, then breeze went to the South East/West/North and things got crazy.

Sunday: Crazy storms, then no wind. 1 bogus race.

Tough to really learn anything when conditions were virtually a free for all. Defiantly need to continue to get more consistent with our starts. OCS killed us, finished 6th in B, but feel like we did better – yet still frustrated with conditions.

Back to Coast Guard again for third weekend in a row! All three kinds of college sailing in one venue in back-to-back weekends, pretty fun.

September 16-17 @ USMMA (King’s Point) in FJs & 420s
A: Erik Storck/Kate Hacker
B: Andrew Loe/Betsy Bryant

Saturday: Dying breeze, only got in 5 races. Current was interesting, but not really a factor, was pretty uniform across the course. We were over one start, came back to 15, but nearly doubled our point total in once race!

Sunday: Dying breeze, only two races counted, but we got enough points on people to win the Division!

First in B!

September 9-10 @ Dartmouth in FJs
A: Andrew Loe/Betsy Bryant
B: Jimmy Attridge/Kate Hacker

Saturday: No sailing.

Sunday: North/NE wind was kind of an unusual direction, learned a lot about when to be patient, and when to make things happen. Had some good starts, and had some awful starts – defiantly need to be more consistent there.

6th in A, great learning experience.
