Avalanche!

Nucci and I finished up our Level 1 Avalanche class today, we even set off an avalanche while we were digging our snow pit! It had a 70cm crown, and was about 15m wide. The slope was the perfect 38 degrees (most avalanches at this pitch), and the snowpack had the right weakness to go. It took a lot of people (almost 20 of us walking around) to get the snow to collapse, and that collapse triggered the slide.

70cm crown.

This Season

“The storm is relentless. With six more inches down and more on the way, the air is electric with apprehension. It’s almost exhausting, but then you remind yourself why you are here. It’s seasons like these, speckled atop seas of mediocrity, that afford you a rare window to actualize the full potential of what you can be. Your goals become simple and immediate, your dreams obsess over untapped lines, and the static chatter of your world dissolves in the solace of the moment. Go, seize it.” -NS
