We finished our amazing trip with a stop in Breckenridge. It was a bit crowded with all of the holiday day-skiers, but we had a good time in the park and on the groomers. We get home just in time for the holidays, with the rest of the family already waiting.
Day 6: Buttermilk
Another day in paradise. We rode the perfectly sculpted man-made constructions of the Buttermilk park and pipe crew. I landed a some good spins and John got his feet wet in the Supah-Pipe.
Day 5: Snowmass
After the long pow filled day, John and I were ready to dork around and cruise some blues. We spent most of the day screwing around in the beginner park and hitting rollers over on Naked Lady. I took a few runs through the expert park, the jumps were large and gave me a huge rush.
Day 4: Highlands
Our predictions were spot on for the day. We got to Aspen Highlands right at 9 in the morning. After a warm up and a few runs on upper mountain, ski patrol opened the Highland Bowl at 11. With no line for the snow cat (which saves you from a pretty tough hike) and no crowd, we were able to lap the bowl until we couldn’t walk. The pictures say it all. Powder!
Day 3: Snowmass
After sleeping in a bit, we mosied up to Snowmass for a lazy day. This is the first week of the season for both of us, so our legs are still pretty weak. In the morning we found a few stashes in the Big Burn glades. Around mid-day it started lightly snowing, so we continued our search for stashes on Elk Camp, eventually settling on the more sheltered Alpine Springs. At around 2:30 we called it a day, and we are getting psyched up to hit Aspen Highlands. New snow tomorrow, combined with the snow we received today should add up to an excellent day.
Day 2: Snowmass
For day 2 we tore up the familiar old Snowmass Mountain. We did everything from steeps, to glades, to parks and rollers.
Day 1: Vail
John and I arrived in Denver at 7:30AM. We got our rental car (a brand new VW Passat!), and headed straight down I-70 West to Vail. After a few mishaps searching for a jacket, and findings some skis, we hit the slopes!
A New Trip!
Going to Colo-RAD-YO! tomorrow, going to hit Vail, Snowmass, Highlands, Buttermilk, Copper, and Breckenridge. Stay tuned for updates and good pictures. I’ll be riding with my brother, so we should have tons of good pictures.
The Whale Hunt
The Whale Hunt is an experiment in human storytelling.
This is undoubtedly one of the coolest things I’ve seen on the internet in the last few years. The concept is amazing. The photographs are epic. The interface is innovative.
Mr. Splashy Pants
Greenpeace has announced the results of the contest to name a whale they are tracking. After a flurry of internet popularity, Mr. Splashy Pants has come out on top, fueled by the worldwide attention. Greenpeace is now urging the world to “save Mr. Splashy Pants.” With a name like that, how can you not just smile?
